Christmas is a retro your best bet for the decoration of Christmas time?
If you remember when a tree Silver foil with pink or light blue is the height of chic holidays …. If the sound of Alvin and the Chipmunks sing "Please Christmas Do not Be Late "always gives you a shiver of anticipation …. If you can not actually remember listening to your father explaining that the lights bubble must have had time to warm up before they'd start to bubble …. then the answer might be yes.
For the generation baby boomers, mid-century modern is a style of decoration is our childhood. Tinsel trees, the lights of the bubble, and The Chipmunks are just as part of our youth as linoleum floors, formica dinettes, black and white TV, and the joy of a new batch of Jiffy Pop directly from the bubble of aluminum.
But over fifty years are not the only ones who enjoy the classic style of the fifties. Mid-century modern quickly became one of the most popular styles new interior, and many 20 – and 30-somethings are adopted with enthusiasm. In a way that few of us who grew up with them can quite understand, plastic furniture and bean bag chairs have become fashionable again.
If you want to find pleasure in their fifties and sixties by decorating your holiday, here are some tips to get there:
Think fun, not picky
Retro Christmas decoration is based on the modern look that was so fashionable in the post-war. Sleek lines and exciting new space age materials (like plastic) are in fashion and tradition gave way to innovation. Fussy details were Release and aerodynamic design was slick for everything from cars to Christmas balls.
Use bright colors and bold designs
Dynamic, intense colors and bold designs cartoonishly simple graphics are the hallmarks of mid-century modern decor. That translates beautifully to the Christmas decorations, and retro-themed fabric and holiday ornaments during the breeding season are relatively easy to find.
Remember the characters
Frosty the Snowman, Rudolph the red nosed reindeer, and of course Santa and his elves were all the characters very popular during the Christmas season of the fifties and sixties. Whether molded into candles, stamped plastic and hanging from the tree, or converted to a plug-in, light-up display of the front yard, cute, cartoon characters Christmas certainly add a touch of retro fun and flair.
Electrify it!
Although shops and public places had been using strings of lights as decorations Christmas since the late 1800s, electric lighted decorations have not become standard for average period until the owners post-war. But when the electrical decorations hit, they hit a great! Manufactured mowers, electric powered decorations were a milestone in a semi-holiday century.
For a real retro, pack away the twinkling lights and mini-Trim your tree with large lights color. New versions of the 1950s, the standards are available everywhere, and they are an improvement over the originals, which could get alarmingly hot in a surprisingly short time.
