It was 1:00 in the morning and I noticed that something was wrong. I slept about two hours until this point. Well, if you could call it that. The alarm was 1:00 sharp pain in the middle of my back. Let's just say sofa beds in 1976 were not known to be too comfortable. Fast forward to about 1989. I went to visit my aunt who had a sofa bed in his living room I knew I would somehow be "sleeping" tonight. Of course, it was time for bed and she told me that I could have the sofa bed. I somehow inside a chuckle ironically at the end of the sentence. I do not associate "sleeping" and "sofa" together. Here, it was around 3:00 am and I felt the dreaded bar in the back, and the possibility that I expected.
Manufacturers of sofa beds had made great improvements in the comfort level of their products by mid to late 90s, but I only really slept all night on one that I started to give them a second chance. I lived under the assumption that all types of sofa beds were just uncomfortable.
It was around 2003 when I went to Chicago during a business trip. In our suite, we had a sofa bed that I actually volunteer. It is quite comfortable. There was no sore back in the early hours of the morning to be treated, and no bar in the middle of my back for me keep awake. I woke up in the morning, rested, happy, and are very aware of what I had just passed. I actually slept well throughout night on a style of bed that used to be simply horrible. What happiness! Sofa beds had earned my respect.
Well, if you can relate to what I have said so far, then you know sofa beds have certainly earned the right to be in our homes. We longer feel bad for having guests sleep on them. We can not honestly give them the sofa "sleeper" without feeling guilty. I discovered that the main cause of the great improvements in these little wonders is that the mattress used in most of them now is actually decent. They are 3 inches thick over. Thank you God! Now you can easily buy sofa beds that are 7 "-10" thick mattress comfortable in them. The upper end units have nicer mattresses. Made sense to me.
When shopping for a sofa beds, be absolutely certain that you buy something with a good mattress in it. This means doing more than simply look at the fabric as it is pretty covered in, or rub your hand on the leather. If you can not test the sofa or mattress in person, then ask a sales representative for information thereon. They can tell you how thick the mattress is, how it is constructed, and perhaps even the brand. It is not that you or someone else good to get a sofa bed which is a pain in the you-know-where.
Most modern sofa beds are fun to watch, have strong structural designs, come in many types of surfaces and fabrics, especially, are comfortable to both sit and sleep.
